Use Google Earth for your Treks

Google earth is a powerful navigation tool developed by Google. This software works on satellite basis and needs internet connection so as to get live navigation.

Pilot treks can be risky at times if you don’t know proper directions. When you are planning a pilot trek then you must use this advanced navigating tool, “Google Earth”. Not only for pilot treks, you may also use it for your normal known treks. This will give you more information about the surrounding places.

You need Google earth installed on your system. You can download it from here and install. After installing you can use it right away to find any place on the earth.

You can follow the steps below for navigating your treks –

• When you startup google earth, you will see a search option on the left side. And the earth on the main screen.

• With mouse, you can scroll anywhere on the earth. You can zoom in zoom out. Even you can get 3D view.

• In search bar, type the place you want to find and press enter key. Now the software will scroll the earth and zoom in to the place that you searched. There can be several results for a particular searched term. At such times, you need to use your own knowledge and zoom in the correct place.
• After zooming in at the place you want, you can look out the nearby surroundings and understand the overlay of that region. This will help you if you get lost.
• Sometimes the place you are looking for might not be there in the google’s database. At such times, you can use the google web search.
• Wikimapia is also a good option for navigation. It almost has all the trekking places in its database.
• Google earth has many features like ruler. With ruler you can measure any distance. You can also use this to trace your path.

Whole route can be traced which will make your pilot trek easy in direction orientation. You can carry images of your traced paths with you in your digicams or mobile phones while on trek. Those will help you for sure.
